Associate Priest (team vicar designate)
Location: Rochford and Sutton with Shopland; Barling Magna and Little Wakering; Great Wakering with Foulness
Rochford, Great Wakering and Barling Magna are three parishes set between Southend-on-Sea, and the river Crouch. Rochford has the biggest population (9,400), which is growing with a major housing development now nearing completion. Great Wakering (4,700) is east of Rochford, and Barling Magna (2,600) is to the northeast. Each parish has a strong sense of community, with farmland in between the main housing areas
The parishes are moving towards the vision that they will form a team ministry.
There are three churches in the benefice, with a chapel of ease in Little Wakering and a worshipping community that meets in a farmhouse in Foulness
- St Andrew, Rochford (where you will have pastoral oversight) is 900 years old, and had links to the Boleyn family. It is set on the town golf course, across the railway line from the town centre. The north aisle has been converted into a meeting room with a kitchen and toilet
- St Nicholas, Great Wakering is a Norman church built in about 1100. It is at the top of the village High Street and has a well-used hall across the road from the church, where, among other things, a well-attended Messy Church meets regularly
- All Saints Barling Magna was also built in the Twelfth Century, and has been added to and restored over the centuries. There is no meeting room or hall, so the Frost Fayre and other events are held in the church (the village is renowned for its spectacular Christmas lights)
